Longtime boys’ soccer coach and educator Gary Thomas will be recognized this coming weekend by the Hackettstown High School Athletic Department and Board of Education for his impressive 41-year career.
A ceremony will be held Sept. 12 at 2:30 p.m. behind the school to name the varsity boys’ soccer field in his honor.
Thomas, who also taught physical education, led Hackettstown’s varsity team in 354 career wins – a Hackettstown High School and Warren County record. He was awarded Coach of the Year nine times, plus headed teams that won 10 conference championships, five county championships, and two state championships in 2011 and 2014.
But the naming ceremony is just part of Super Saturday, which will also feature all-day sports events and a tailgating themed pulled pork dinner.
Tickets for the “Tailgate” supper, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., cost $10 in advance and can be purchased through the Athletic Office or reserved by e-mailing Mrs. Amanda Hayes at email@example.com. Limited $12 tickets may be available the day of the event.
The Tailgate Supper will be hosted by the FFA in the school cafeteria and precedes the varsity football season opener.
