Hidden in Plain Sight Tackles Drug Warning Signs

Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities' Elizabeth Montalvo and DEA Special Agent Tim McMahon present "Hidden in Plain Sight" at Oxford Central School in 2017.

Oxford Central School hosted a parent event, “Hidden in Plain Sight,” recently to explore ways that parents could become more aware of the signs that their child might be using drugs or alcohol. The presentation, which included a mock bedroom, covered signs of potential trouble as well as where assistance could be provided should they need it. Lt. John Kaufman, of the Washington Township Police, discussed how law enforcement, the county agencies, and the DEA all work together with schools to encourage students to make positive life choices. The program was a cooperative effort between the OCS PA, Oxford Municipal Alliance, the Washington Township Police Department, the Oxford Township Board of Education, Warren County Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
