It was another successful day at the annual Walk to Benefit Joan Knechel Cancer Center at Hackettstown Medical Center, held on Sunday, Oct. 15, at River Park in Hackettstown.

More than 250 walkers participated in the event, raising more than $42,000 for the center.

Participants could sign up as an individual or a team.

The top individual fundraiser was Maureen Jobeless.

The top five team fundraisers were, in order, Team Fire Fighters for a Cure, HHS Lady Tiger Volleyball Team, Team Embrace, Barbara H. Fighters Team, and Team Jazzercise of Hackettstown.

Funds raised are designated for a Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) system for mammography at Hackettstown Medical Center. The CAD system converts a mammogram into digital form and highlights suspicious areas, alerting the radiologist if further analysis is needed.  It can improve the detection of cancer in the breast by acting as a “second set of eyes.”

The event was sponsored by Sanofi Pasteur, Presenting Sponsor, Atlantic Health System, Walker “Fueling Station Sponsor,” HMC Medical Staff and RoNetco Supermarkets Inc., Gold Sponsors. Silver Sponsors were Bea McNally’s Irish Pub; Coe, Jason & Stacey; FootCare Associates, P.C.; Gerber Metal Supply Co.; and Hackettstown Rotary Club. Many additional contributing sponsors also made the event possible.
