WCCC Offers Variety Of Active Adult Enrichment Classes

The National Institute on Aging encourages older adults to get up and get active, be it physical or mental activity (and preferably both) in order to promote overall health. Lucky for local residents, Warren County Community College offers a convenient and affordable way to learn a new craft or get active through a full range of personal enrichment classes!

Each semester, WCCC’s department of continuing education offers several fun all-ages and Active Adult 55+ courses that teach a new craft, work the mind and body, and get people talking!

Offerings this spring begin in February, March, or April depending on the course.

For those seeking to get in shape, an all fitness level Pilates Mat class will work to strengthen muscles and promote a healthy spine, while beginners can learn the essentials of yoga regardless of age or body type. A beginners’ belly dance class can also add some spice to an existing exercise routine.

Those who haven’t had the time to learn the timeless game of golf (or are a bit embarrassed by their play) can also take part in Beginner or Intermediate Golf classes.

Looking to work with your hands? Painting is a wonderful way to express oneself, and WCCC is proud to offer art courses in basic decorative painting, as well as watercolor and acrylic painting, and pencil drawing. Floral design is a charming class that can help transform the home as students learn to arrange bouquets, centerpieces, and even corsages.

Specially designed technology courses are also a popular choice with the over 55 crowd.

Courses range in price.

According to the National Institute on Aging, participating in exercise and social activities have numerous health benefits. Older adults who remain active, the Institute says, have a lower risk of developing some health problems (including dementia), generally have a longer lifespan, have lower rates of depression, and may boost memory and problem-solving skills.
