Local Ice Hockey Team Enjoying a Winning Season

By Andy Loigu

The MOHOHA ice hockey team, a collaborative program put together with high school players from Mount Olive, Hopatcong and Hackettstown, has a 12-8 record following recent wins over Watchung Hills and Fair Lawn.

In a 3-1 win on January 19, MOHOHA outshot “The Chung,” peppering the net with 34 shots on goal to 24 for their opponents.

Dom Landolfi and Ryan Walsh each contributed a goal and assist to the onrushing offense. Anthony Walsh and Ryan Puco also dished assists.

Ryan Walsh also scored twice in a 4-3 win over Fair Lawn played on January 24th. In an oddity, he scored a shorthanded goal and a power play goal in the same game. Andrew Scelfo assisted on two goals as the locals outshot Fair Lawn 22-20 in a difficult game.

Several players have scored goals and assists through the season as the squad features teamwork passing the puck up the ice.

We wish the MOHOHA squad success in the upcoming league playoffs and state tournament. They play their home games at the Mennen Arena in Morristown. Why not “check” them out?

Super Bowl Party Time

Though nobody local to New Jersey made it to The Big Game this year, it still offers an interesting rematch being played by the same teams that battled in the Super Bowl a decade ago. New England won that one by stopping the Seattle Seahawks at the goal line as time ran out. Now, with young unheralded quarterbacks playing their first Super Bowl game, I think the Seattle defense will make the difference in a 30-17 win.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis has left the building. He likes the Patriots because they have a “flying Elvis” on their helmets. Look closely, you’ll see that classic Elvis profile.
