A Virtual Tour of the USA One Cocktail at a Time

Nothing is more American than cocktail hour.

The Warren County Library urges members to channel their inner Mad Men and learn about favorite regional cocktails with Tammy Coxen who identifies as a professional cocktail enthusiast and is Chief Tasting Officer of Tammy’s Tastings.

Coxen with present a virtual program at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 10 through the library’s virtual education programming.

Cocktails as we know them today are fundamentally American creations, Coxen says, even, presumably, the classic Smirnoff martini “shaken no stirred.” But different regions of the country have different cocktail favorites such as Kentucky’s mint julep. The Tammy’s Tastings virtual presentation is a cross country trip in a glass, exploring the regional classic cocktails of America, from New Orleans to Kentucky to California and beyond. Coxen presents lessons in making the cocktails and also the history and stories behind the drinks. She schedules time for questions.

Participants will receive a selection of recipes in advance to provide time to acquire ingredients and a link to Coxen’s basic cocktail mixing technique video will also be emailed for those who wish get a head start on cocktail basics.

Coxen has been teaching interactive hands-on cocktail classes to individuals, groups, and companies for events ranging from parties to corporate team building since 2011. Now she’s taken those classes online, exploring history, stories, and mixing techniques behind some of the world’s most famous cocktails. She is also co-author of Cheers to Michigan, a book celebrating the mitten state through cocktails.

This event is for adults only. To register, contact Kim Urban, (908) 818-1280. kurban@warrenlib.org
