August at the Hackettstown Free Public Library

Hello Patrons of the Hackettstown Free Public Library!
August is upon us and the dog days of summer are here. Why not cool down with some fun activities and entertainment from your local library?
This month begins our program series “The Art and Craft of Writing” (sponsored by the Warren County Cultural and Heritage Division) with a program and workshop about graphic novels, hosted by graphic novelist and illustrator Ben Wilgus. This program series for adults and teens will continue into the fall and cover all aspects of writing, from poetry to screenwriting.
Other great adult program offerings for August include:

  • Two sessions (the 10th and the 31st) of “Rhythm & Grace : Discover the Joy of Movement,” a dance sample class
  • “Energy Booster Meditation” on the 17th
  • “90’s Trivia Night” is taking place on the 21st
  • “Lighthouses of New Jersey” on the 30th
  • “Tiger Tech Tips,” a drop-in program series where high schoolers help you with your devices will continue every Tuesday and Thursday, at 11am & 4pm

For those parents who might need a little extra help, Project Self-Sufficiency is hosting a series of programs at the library intended to make your life easier. These programs run every Friday of the month at 10:30am and cover such topics as meals and bedtime. Parents even get workbooks to take home!
Children will have their little hands full in August with Wednesday Story Times, LEGO Club, Sensory Story Times, and drop-in craft Fridays!
This month teens have craft nights, game days, and “fandom Fridays.” Make sure to check out the online calendar to find a program that is right for your teen!
Finally, don’t forget that the Summer Reading program ends on August 18th, so make sure to get your tickets in before then. The following week we will be drawing tickets and alerting our prize winners! So, good luck! In conjunction, we have a leftover kids craft day on the 25th where children can do (or take home) any of the crafts they missed throughout the summer. On the 28th, we have an end-of-summer pizza party for teens.
There are so many great events for August so make sure to check out our offerings! Also, why not take home a movie or an audiobook to enjoy while you sit in front of your air conditioner? We have plenty of those too.
Come and visit us soon! We can’t wait to see you!
