Cathy’s Person Of The Week Pic Is A ‘Yoga’ Honor

Health & Fitness Day was the theme of the weekly Washington Borough Farmers’ Market on Sept. 8 and here is where Cathy Miller captured her Person of the Week. Cherilyn Hopkins (pictured) gave a 30-minute interactive demonstration of basic yoga in the Pocket Park. Hailing from Belvidere, she opened Honor Yoga on Washington Avenue in the Borough on August 4. With accomplished teachers and a calming decor, the airy studio offers beginner-friendly through intermediate yoga classes (with some advanced postures) seven days a week. Cherilyn has practiced yoga for 25 years, and began teaching in 2014. When asked about her decision to teach, she recounted, “I teach because I was drawn to share yin yoga through my own personal experience. It helped me to let go and allow emotions to flow. It helped me to feel and to process while releasing long held tension in my body. I loved the practice so much I had to share it.” She further characterized, “For me, yoga is the breath of life that I neglect to take without reminder. My favorite type of yoga is yin, which is stillness and surrender (feminine). Our society is dominated by yang (masculine) practices: working out (muscle), running, vinyasa flow, busyness in general. It’s all too much, we need to balance both yin and yang to be whole. Yin takes me out of my busy mind and into my body through presence, it’s a really good feeling and I love to share it.” Rounding out Health & Fitness Day, were Oakwood Lanes and Washington Borough Recreation, along with a great mix of farmers and vendors. Performing live were members of the band Soundbound – Louis Garzon, a student at Mr. Music, on guitar, and Joseph Carey on drums.

Cathy Miller, an award-winning photographer has been capturing the faces of Warren County for many years. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, local, statewide, and beyond.
