Charlie Fineran’s Pic Has Only One Way To Go

Charlie Fineran’s Pic of the Week has only one way to go!

The photo this week gives a good overall image, depicting the typical physical attributes of this one lane section of Old Mine Road – Rocky cliffs with lush vegetation on the uphill side, narrow one-way roadway and a cement retainer wall atop a steep downhill slope adjacent and above the Delaware River.  This one-lane section of road begins just north of the I 80 Toll Bridge at the traffic light, not just any traffic light –  A THREE MINUTE traffic light!!  Reported to be the longest light in New Jersey.  The three minutes, allows traffic to travel from one light to the next in a one-way caravan.

Traveling this section of the road many times during all seasons and weather, I’ve witnessed the beauty of this site!!  Witnessed it, BUT, never really got a chance to fully appreciate it!!  The day these photos were taken I had walked south along Karamac Trail, a rails-to-trails adjacent to the River, when the trail ended at Old Mine Rd. just north of the I 80 Toll Bridge, I decided to walk back North on the road and get some photos.

NOTE:  I can’t honestly say I felt comfortable and safe during this road walk, when the cars came by there is really no place to step off the road AND the cars don’t have any leeway in moving over for you!!

My road-walk was in the Autumn and foliage was nice.  While viewing the photos (link below) I believe you will be able to imagine the many different viewing opportunities presented in this area because of the rocks and overhanging trees and shrubs.  Winter is also special with ice formations on the rocks!!  This area has many different lighting settings which all depend on the sun’s positions, either by time of day OR by what Season!!

The second set of photos is a southbound auto trip with some ice.

Please visit my Flickr site for photos – Hope you enjoy your walk!!  https://www.flickr.com/photos/charliefineran/albums/72157642548033584

Enjoy your visit, Charlie Fineran
