Upcoming cabaret show, STEM events and more in this edition of From the Halls of Warren Hills

Warren Hills Regional School District has several pieces of news to share:

RECOGNITIONS:

Warren Hills senior, James Jordan, was honored on January 8th for reaching 1,000 points in his basketball career at the school. Jordan scored his 1000th career point during a tournament over the holiday break. He was recognized in a special ceremony before the January 8th home game versus Newton, which resulted in a Streaks win (70-63) in an exciting double overtime game. James Jordan led the way with 23 points.

Congratulations also to senior Emma Pinto, who was selected to the North Jersey Region I Chorus for the Soprano II section!

On Friday, January 4th, DECA, which prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges, sent 44 Warren Hills students to Kean University to compete in the DECA district competition. Warren Hills had 16 students qualify for the state competition in March at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City. Moving forward in the Account Applications Series are Emily Mathew (3rd place), Natalie Gerola (4th), Sophie Martin (5th), and Sabrina Fallas (10th); Entrepreneurship Series, Spencer Klingel (10th); Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making, Olivia Flynn and Megan Sergeant (4th); Food Marketing Series, Unique Portugal (9th); Hotel and Lodging Management, Dylan Hourihan (6th); Marketing Communications Series, Skylar Warren (8th); Principles of Business Management and Administration, Mabintou Fofana (2nd); Principles of Finance, Nicholas Langhorne (10th), Quick Serve Restaurant Management Series, Tamia Freeman (9th); Restaurant and Food Service Management, Michael Alfieri (2nd) and Nina Fitzsimmons (4th); and Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Jack Warsen (8th).                    

EVENTS:

Warren Hills Regional High School’s Select Choir will be hosting a cabaret night. A fundraiser for choral competitions, the choir will perform a range of show tunes. Sweet treats will accompany the sweet sounds. Admission: $4 for students and $8 for adults, refreshments included. Wednesday, Feb. 6 (snow date Feb. 13), 7 p.m.

The 9th annual STEM alumni showcase was held on Thursday, Jan. 3rd, in the Warren Hills High School Library, with 41 special guests: alumni who study or have studied STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in college. The alumni, who graduated between 2011 to 2018 and range from finance professionals to wildlife conservationists to mechanical engineers, discussed college life, course requirements, internships, and career prospects, with current students.
