Don’t just live in the world, be a part of it. The Social Sciences option at Warren Community College prepares students to become “Difference-Makers” through a multi-faceted liberal arts degree program.

Opening the door to careers and advanced degrees in criminal justice, economics, counseling and social work, political science, and more, the study of social science promotes social awareness through the exploration of social, political, and economic issues.

Associate Professor of Social Sciences Jennifer Harrison has said that everyone should take at least one class in sociology to better understand the world in which they live.

“Regardless of what field of work you go into, Intro to Sociology allows you to understand your society, as well as the cultural norms, attitudes, and behaviors of others, which can allow you to work better with a variety of people and remove any unconscious bias,” she said.

Of course, there’s a lot to explore in the world, and that’s true of class options, too. In addition to introductory classes in each social science field, Spring 2021 electives delve into fascinating and important topics:

· In World Music Cultures, the focus is on folk, tribal and classical music traditions of non-Western cultures, drawing connections between regions, musical styles, instruments, and dance.

· Corrections in Today’s Society, a criminal justice elective, discusses the history of punishment and how it has evolved to the present-day corrections system.

· Timely and important, Racial & Ethnic Relations covers basic principles and fundamental sociological concepts, interpersonal and intercultural interactions, social changes, and social problems.

For those looking to take the first step toward being a global citizen it’s not too late to get started in Spring 2021!
