Many WCC Graduates Part Of Response Effort

As nurses and healthcare professionals throughout the United States help take on the threat of COVID-19, Warren Community College is proud to know that many of its graduates are part of the response teams in this region.

Community colleges like Warren are the primary educators of nurses and many other healthcare professionals. Ranked as one of the best nursing programs in the state, Warren Community College graduates have found employment with medical facilities in the area and know firsthand of the COVID-19 threat.

This April, Warren celebrates National Community College Month, which honors the importance of affordable education. National Community College Month takes on even more meaning as numerous Warren graduates, from a variety of degree and certificate programs, are assisting one way or another in the current crisis.

“Our faculty, staff, elected officials, Board of Trustees and even our vendors always have a single goal, to produce the most educated and best prepared professionals for our local community,” said Warren Community College President Dr. Will Austin. “Our students have been well prepared. They are people of great value and integrity. I take great comfort in knowing that many of our best who we have been privileged to graduate are working tirelessly now for the community that supported them in achieving their education and skills.”

Affordable Education to be Proud Of

The “community” in community college goes beyond its location. Students and faculty find a sense of belonging at Warren Community College.

For many students, this may be the first time they’ve felt at home in an educational setting. Community colleges allow all students to thrive even when those students have the fewest resources and face considerable obstacles. Warren Community College is helping students to be successful. Students at Warren are achieving the highest level of student success in the state.

How does this happen? A national Gallup survey looked at student-faculty relationships and found that associate degree holders were more likely to feel they had professors who cared about them as people and mentors who encouraged them to pursue their dreams.

Warren Community College has established a support system for its students. This system is set up to help ensure no one falls through the cracks which includes faculty advising, one-on-one mentorship, and peer programs.

Success at this college community directly impacts a student’s ability to thrive at a four-year institution or in the workforce. Warren Community College’s award-winning, affordable educational experience, with its No. 1 rated graduation rate in New Jersey, prepares students for both.

A 2017 survey by New America found that students perceive community colleges to be more worth the cost than any other sector of higher education while also better preparing students for a successful career.

In Warren County and beyond, this career-minded success is being experienced firsthand in the hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics with the most vulnerable residents of New Jersey.

This National Community College Month, Warren Community College salutes all of its students and staff for taking the word “community” and making it a reality. For more about Warren County College and its myriad programs, visit www.warren.edu.
