After a 3-year hiatus due to COVID, Riverwalk Village at the House of Good Shepherd Senior Living Community’s gala Wine & Dine fundraiser returned with much fanfare on June 1, and two individuals were at the center of attention.

John Johnson of Allamuchy Township was recognized as the “Distinguished Friend of the House” and Tita Gonzalez from Washington was honored as the “Distinguished Team Member and Friend of the House”.

Both Johnson and Gonzalez were joined by family and friends for the festive dining event, as well as many well-wishers from the community at-large.

Proceeds from the event went to the Shepherd’s Fund, which helps residents financially when needed.

Johnson is well known for his family owned – and well respected – John Johnson Automotive Group in Mount Olive. Director of Housekeeping & Laundry at The House, Gudelia “Tita” Gonzalez, has been a staple there for the past 26 years. Johnson was introduced by his good friend Norman Worth of WRNJ, in conjunction with Johnson’s son, John III, both of whom had many wonderful things to say about him. Gonzalez was introduced by Sue Lanza, Executive Director at The House.

“I can’t image two more deserving honorees than John and Tita,” said Lanza. “John is an enormous supporter of so many non-profits in the area it is amazing. And Tita is truly an important part of our family here at the House. She is hugely appreciated by residents and staff.”

In addition to special gifts for each, Johnson and Gonzalez received New Jersey State Legislative Citations through Senator Doug Steinhardt, and Assemblymen John DiMaio and Erik Peterson.

Restaurants and dining services that participated in the event included Chesapeake Tavern, Enjoy Creperie, Greene’s Beans Café, Harpers Bagel and Bake Shop, James on Main, Mama’s Café Baci, Mattar’s Bistro, Mazurs Chocolate Lab, Riverwalk Village at The House of the Good Shepherd, Anthony & Sons, and Boars Head.

“Without the generosity of the restaurants we could not have had such a successful event,” said Lanza. “We can’t thank them enough!”
