Recently The Hackettstown House of the Good Shepherd (The House) went “under the stars” at its annual wine and dine event, as it recognized two individuals who have gone above and beyond to give back to the community.

Guests enjoyed music ranging from colonial American to a Bobby Darin Tribute.  As music soared through the air, those in attendance enjoyed a wide variety of tastings from local restaurants.  All proceeds from the event went to benefit the Shepherd’s fund, which is designed to help residents of The House who have outlived their resources.

To end the night, this year’s honorees were recognized by friends and co-workers in front of the large crowd on hand.  Tom Schiano and his family have owned Hackettstown’s Mama’s Café and Baci for nearly five decades now.  He originally started his career by selling pizza with his brother Louie in the old Hackettstown Mall.  Schiano has continuously given back to the community by donating his meals and hospitality service to schools, clubs, teams, charities, first responders, Veterans, church groups and others.

“It feels humbling and it also feels somewhat selfish because this doesn’t come from just one individual, you know it comes from the whole family.  It feels great, I’m sharing it with my whole team and family,” said Schiano about receiving this recognition.

Former restaurant owner and operator as well as former House of the Good Shepherd Director of Dining Services Linda Gregg was honored for her dedication to The House over the course of her 10-year stint with it.

“I was initially stunned, but I am truly honored and I’m humbled by the honor and I am thrilled that I am actually sharing this evening with a very good friend Tom.  We’ve been close friends forever, so this is a really special evening not just for us, but The House of the Good Shepherd and the great community we have,” said Gregg.
