Next CSC Performance Explores Mother-Son Dynamic

Centenary Stage Company’s theatrical season continues this November with Jennifer Fawcett’s award-winning play, Apples in Winter.

Limited performances of the moving drama, about the lifelong journey of a mother and son, will run Nov. 8-18 at the Centenary Stage Company’s Lackland Performing Arts Center in Hackettstown. A special talk back with the cast and Centenary University’s Associate Professor of Psychology, Keith Morgen PhD will be held after the Sunday, Nov. 11, show.

In Apples in Winter, Robert has asked his mother to make him an apple pie with fruit from the well-loved tree in their yard. It is the one thing that has bound them together since he was a young boy.

Parts of this play were written when Fawcett was a new mother. “I could feel that deep, gut-level drive to do anything to protect this little human,” Fawcett said, “to give him the best life I could. But what if… what if… What if he isn’t happy? What if the world isn’t kind to him, or easy, or gentle? What if?”

Apples in Winter will premiere at Centenary Stage Company as part of the NNPN Rolling World Premiere program. The flagship initiative, NNPN’s Rolling World Premiere (RWP) program is shifting the new play paradigm of the one-and-done premiere to a diversified, traveling, multi-production premiere.

Jennifer Fawcett is an award-winning playwright and co-founder of Working Group Theatre. The production stars Colleen Smith Wallnau.

Individual performance dates are Fridays and Saturdays (Nov. 9, 10, 16, and 17) at 8 p.m., Sundays (Nov. 11 and 18) at 2 p.m., Wednesday (Nov. 14) at 2 p.m., and Thursdays (Nov. 8 and 15) at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $25-$29.50 for adults with discounts for group sale, buffet matinee, children under 12, and BOGO opportunities.
