October Events at Rutherfurd Include Free and Exclusive Events

Happy October! It’s Fall and Halloween fun at Rutherfurd Hall this month. Leading off the month was a special lecture about the psychology of Stephen King. Now, mark your calendars for these events:

Attend a free history lecture, “The Rutherfurd Hall Collections Part 2” on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Sessions are at 4 and 7 p.m. Supported by the Allamuchy Historical Society, the lecture allows artifacts from the Rutherfurd Hall Collections to tell their stories about the house, its family, Allamuchy, and beyond. Joan Salvas, Rutherfurd Hall Historian, will lead the program. Each session will be the same information.

The following Wednesday, Oct. 16, history buffs can then attend a book signing and free lecture from author Joe McGee, who will speak about his book, “Letters for Annie: Memories from World War II,” a tale of four brothers who served in the global conflict. The events runs 7-8:30 p.m.

A special Halloween-themed paint night on Friday, Oct. 18, will features a kids’ paint starting at 6:30 p.m. and an Adult Paint and (BYO) Wine Night starts at 7 p.m. Kids will paint a haunted house and adults a spooky pumpkin. The event is $20 per child or $25 per adult. All supplies, professional instruction, and light snacks are included.

Next, find a moment of inner-calm on Monday, Oct. 21, with Meditation with Jean Marie of Fostering the Journey. The hour-long meditation is 6:30-7:30 p.m. with an optional half hour gentle yoga session preceding. Yoga begins at 5:50 p.m. Tickets are $15 for meditation and $7 for yoga. Please bring your own mats.

Head off-site for a Rutherfurd Hall benefit featuring Autumn Food and Wine pairings. The Rutherfurd Hall Foundation presents an exclusive evening on Thursday, Oct. 24, in the new outdoor courtyard at David’s Country Inn in Hackettstown. Seasonal small plates will be paired with wine in a benefit for the capital campaign for renovations and restorations at the historic hall. Tickets are $100 per person or $125 VIP, which includes a bottle of wine of choice.

Finally, on Sunday, Oct. 27, the 2019-2020 Jazz Series kicks off with saxophonist/singer Danny Bacher leading an unforgettable night of music and fun. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door.

Rutherfurd Hall is located at 1686 Route 517 in Allamuchy, just off Interstate 80. They are open every Wednesday from 1:00-4:00 pm for tours on the hour.
