Swingadelic Next Up for Jazz Series, Nov. 24

Rutherfurd Hall

Thaw out from this early winter freeze with classic swing music, sure to warm the heart and soul, when the next jazz series concert come to historic Rutherfurd Hall on Sunday, Nov. 24.

A convenient afternoon show running 3-5 p.m., Swingadelic will feature the music of Johnny Mercer. Mercer was not only an iconic figure as a lyricist and composer for the American Songbook, but was a celebrity and entertainer throughout the 40s and 50s, with a popular radio show during the war years. He also had gigs with a lot of the big bands of the era, hit records of his own, and was winner of four Academy Awards for Best Song as well as two Grammys for Song of the Year.

Swingadelic includes director and bassist Dave Post, saxophonist Bill Easley, pianist/vocalist John Bauers, drummer David Longworth, and vocalist Vanessa Perea. Swingadelic began in 1998 as the neo-swing movement was cresting. Upright bassist Dave Post gathered his jazz & blues playing friends together to play engagements at New York City clubs, including Swing 46, where they now have a Monday night “little big band” residency, and Windows On The World, the former restaurant atop of the World Trade Center.

Tickets for Swingadelic are $30 in advance or $35 at the door.
