The Outcrops Debut CD Offers ‘Peace of Mind’

Anybody paying any attention to the regional blues-rock scene is well aware of The Outcrops.

While their debut CD title is “Peace of Mind”, their live shows actually give “peace” new meaning as they rock out with a vengeance led by front woman Cassidy Rain (vocals/guitar).

The Outcrops have a passion that sets them apart from many other “new” bands. They truly play music with heart. They have dug their roots into rock’n’roll, blues, funk, R&B, old country and jazz and their original music is a unique blend of these styles stemming from the same soulful soil.

They’ll be bringing that fire to Bernie’s Hillside Lounge in Chester on Sunday Oct. 13 for a special CD Release Party that will also feature CB Radio.

Rain and Bryan Schroeder (lead guitar) started the band in 2016 with a passion for rock’n’roll and blues music from their love of bands such as the Allman Brothers, the Grateful Dead, and blues artists such as B.B King and Buddy Guy. Since then, The Outcrops have opened for Grammy nominated blues artist, Alexis P. Suter and they have shared the stage with Tim Carbone (Railroad Earth), Andy Goessling (Railroad Earth), and John Ginty (Robert Randolph Band, Allman Betts band).

The Outcrops often pay homage to artists such as Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Big Bill Broonzy, and Smokey Robinson in their live shows, adding their unique twist to covers, some known, some little known.

The debut album was produced by Carbone at MixOLydian studios in Delaware Water Gap, PA.,owned by Don Sternecker, who also engineered and recorded the album. Jim Wilson mastered the record in Denver, CO.

The title track, ‘Peace of Mind’, was inspired by the beauty of nature and the peace of mind that it can bring. However, as an album title, “it also encompasses the peace of mind we feel when we play or write music,” says Rain.

Two other band favorites on the CD are the upbeat love song ‘Your Girl’, as well as Schroeder’s lyric writing debut with ‘Lost Days’. All songs on the record were written by Rain or Schroeder, or were co-written by the two of them.

Rain praised Carbone: “He produced the record. He aided in pre-production of the songs, the recording process, and the mixing process. He really pushed the songs to the next level.”

Rounding out the band on the CD, and touring, are SJ Brooks, whose steady drumming is smooth as ice, and Jason Casanovas on bass. The album also includes piano work by Joe Biglin on all of the tracks. Biglin, who often tours with The Samples, will be a guest performer at Bernie’s for the CD Release Party.
