The Warren Community College Visiting Authors Series is back next week on Wednesday, Sept. 23, with a special three-part virtual series slated for the Fall semester. All events are free and open to the public.

“Our community might be physically separated right now, but we are not broken,” said BJ Ward, Professor of English and Creative Writing and the Director of the Visiting Authors Series. “Please join us for one or more of these live events featuring authors who continue to create during this pandemic.”

The first event features two local authors, poet Ysabel Y. Gonzalez and fiction writer Sung J. Woo. Both acclaimed authors reside in Washington and each has published a book within the last year!

Join them for a reading and discussion of their work on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Visiting Authors Series first virtual event in its 25-year history! The event will begin at 7 p.m. and will be hosted on GoToWebinar. A link will be provided upon registration. Register here.

Ysabel Y. Gonzalez received her BA from Rutgers University, an MFA in Poetry from Drew University and works as the Assistant Director for the Poetry Program at the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. A CantoMundo Fellow, Gonzalez has published work in numerous magazines and is the author of “Wild Invocations” (Get Fresh Books, 2019).

Sung J. Woo’s short stories and essays have appeared in The New York Times, PEN/Guernica, and Vox. He has written three novels, “Skin Deep” (2020), “Love Love” (2015) and “Everything Asian” (2009), which won the 2010 Asian Pacific American Librarians Association Literature Award.

Next up in the series will be novelist Jeff Bens on Thursday, Oct. 15, followed by novelist and essayist Jhumpa Lahiri on Thursday, Nov. 19.

The Visiting Authors Series is supported by a grant from the Warren County Division of Cultural & Heritage Affairs.
