Golf courses in Warren County, as well as the rest of the state, are now operating under social-distancing regulations after receiving reopening-clearance from the NJ government in late April.

“We understand that New Jerseyans want to get outside and get some fresh air as the weather warms up,” NJ Gov. Phil Murphy said after signing Executive Order No. 133. This order allowed for golf courses and state parks to reopen, effective as of May 2.

Golf courses such as Minebrook Golf Club in Hackettstown have made their members clear of the new social-distancing guidelines they should abide by while playing on the course.

As per CDC guidelines, Minebrook Golf Club has established a list of regulations, which can be found on their website. Some regulations include the limitation on number of riders per golf cart, scheduled tee times to limit number of people on the course, and the closing of the clubhouse.

Rob Armstrong, the General Manager of Minebrook, said that the members are trusted to abide by these rules themselves, with the help and guidance of Minebrook employees.

Fairway Valley Golf Club in Washington is also operating under similar guidelines.

Eldred Halsey, a Fairway Valley employee, said that members must wear face masks while inside the associated shop. Members must also keep their distance from other players, among many other regulations.

Like Minebrook, Fairway Valley trusts its members to regulate themselves.

Similar to Murphy’s sentiment about golf courses and state parks reopening, Halsey also felt that golf courses were some of the best places for New Jerseyans to get some fresh air.

“People love to get out in the sunshine,” Halsey said. “This is a beautiful place for people to come and social distance and have a great time.”
