Washington Farmers Market: Music, Grand Openings

Looking to finish off the Farmers Market season with a flourish, the Washington Business Improvement District in conjunction with the Borough Green Team, has scheduled a host of special activities on three consecutive Saturdays, Sept. 19, 26 and Oct. 3.

The “action” by the Downtown Pocket Park includes the Farmers Market, live music, Grand Opening celebrations, Miss Vicky the Mermaid and King Neptune, and for wrestling fans, professional grappler Tito Santana at a special meet and greet at Washington’s newest dining establishment, 214 Farm to Market Restaurant.

Farmers Market hours all three Saturdays are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features a host of fresh and delicious locally grown vegetables and fruits, as well as other products.

On Sept. 19, music will fill the air from 10 a.m. til 4 p.m. Performing in the Pocket Park will be Winterlong, the Big Easy Easton Brass Band, and TC Carpenter. Vicky the Mermaid, joined by King Neptune, will also be on hand to read a story to children from 12 noon to 12:30. At 2 p.m., the music moves across the street by Empanada Mamasita with the band, This Old House. Also at 2 p.m., the CBD Store is celebrating the Grand Opening of its new location at 59 E. Washington Avenue (Route 57) with a ribbon cutting. The public is invited. In addition, there will be an art exhibit opening at 5 East Art Gallery, 5 E. Washington Ave., from 1-6 p.m. with Annandale artist Elisabeth Jacobsen. Her exhibit, titled DOWN TO BASICS, is a series of de-collaged cardboard assemblages.

At 4 p.m., 214 Farm to Market Restaurant will be the scene of more excitement starting with its ceremonial ribbon cutting and then a guest appearance by Tito Santana. 214 Farm to Market, owned by local resident Dave Leahy, is located at 25 E. Washington Avenue (Route 57). 214 serves up an array of Americana cuisine. For information in advance on the restaurant, call 908-869-6268.

Come Sept. 26, Claudia & Liliana perform by the Farmers Market from 10-11:30 followed by the Flexible Flyers from 12 to 2. Down the street on W. Washington Avenue at 12 noon, the Knoll-Devoe Funeral Home will be holding its Grand Opening ceremony. The Knoll-Devoe event is open to the public. 

Oct. 3 it’s the Farmers Market Season Ending Grand Finale! It’s Pet Appreciation Day and more great music kicking off at 10:30 and capping it off with local favorites Southbound playing their special brand of southern rock tunes from 1-3 p.m. putting the finishing touches on an awesome farmers market season.
