Wolfe’s Love Of Sports Still A ‘Buzz’ With Podcast

By Andy Loigu

Kevin Wolfe is a 2009 graduate of Centenary College who is passionate about sportscasting.

He is employed by City University of New York (CUNY) as a TV broadcast associate and audio engineer. He knows and operates all the state of the art equipment related to sound and broadcast quality.

“I’ve done everything from hosting a highly rated weekly sports radio show (The Sports Buzz on WNTI-FM as a college student) to running an audio board and editing sound for on-air use,” he said, adding, “and it is still fun.”

Over a decade ago he worked for WFAN Sports Radio in New York as an intern and with closely associated Westwood One as a producer and highlight editor.

Our paths crossed when I was a color-man and analyst on live WNTI broadcasts of Centenary Cyclones basketball and WRNJ broadcasts of Hackettstown Tigers football. I was invited to join him as a co-host giving old-guy perspective and old-time trivia on The Sports Buzz, which was a live program on Thursday nights, leading the listener into the sports weekend. Kevin was nicknamed The Mayor because he’s a friendly guy who likes to get to know lots of people. I was nicknamed The Walrus because that’s a name the freshman football coach gave me in high school back in 1964. It even predates the Beatles singing I Am The Walrus. Well, when you listen to The Mayor and The Walrus you know you’re getting something that’s down to earth and unpretentious.

The Sports Buzz keeps going as a podcast after all these years. Kevin aims to make each show a thought provoking and passionate discourse on a wide range of sports topics, including opinionated banter about the Mets, Yankees, Giants, Jets, Devils, etc. The Walrus will contribute some Eagles, Sixers, Flyers and Phillies related topics to the table. I’ll be joining the show in time for the NFL season and offering football picks, for entertainment purposes only. I’ve never been a sports gambler and never will be. I don’t need that kind of “action” to make sports interesting for me.

On the other, for some reason, I’m feeling very Buffalo Bills today. My crystal ball sees a very super season in store for those guys from the north.

Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building.
