Arts Alliance Seeks NJ’s ‘Star Next Door’

OFFERING OVER $2,100 IN PRIZE MONEY!
The Roxbury (Morris County) Arts Alliance (RAA) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall. One way it wants to celebrate this milestone is by hosting a vocal talent competition.
Do you have or do you know someone who has what it takes to be the next great talent anywhere in the State of New Jersey area?
Looking for the top vocal talent in the State the RAA is offering over $2,100 in prize money to the top three finalists in a competition that will be completed during a special final event at the Investor’s Bank Theater in Succasunna on Saturday night Oct. 7, 2017.
“The Star Next Door – A Vocal Competition” is open to those 15 and over who live in New Jersey or who are alumni of Roxbury High School.
Sponsored by Fullerton Ground Maintenance, the competition begins with an application process started on July 1 and runs until Aug. 15. A limited number of applications will be accepted and considered on a rolling basis so applicants should not delay.
The competition focuses on solo performers; it is not open to full bands (although vocalists may be accompanied by up to three musicians). All styles of music are welcome, from folk to soft rock, jazz and blues, and everything in between.
Twenty semi-finalists will be announced Sept. 8. All 20 will be posted on the event Facebook page along with their videos. The contestant who receives the most “likes” will have a guaranteed slot in the finals as the “People’s Choice” contestant. After considering all the entries, judges select the final 12 acts for the competition. The final dozen acts chosen will be invited to perform at the theater on Oct. 7, 2017 before a panel of judges. The first place prize is $1,020, second place is $720, and third place is $420. To be eligible for the cash prizes, those selected by the judges MUST perform on Oct. 7.
“We wanted to come up with a big community event to celebrate our 20th anniversary,” said  Sarah Coraggio, co-chair of the competition. “We are always talking about how there are so many wonderful performers in our area and we felt that we wanted to do our part to highlight them.”
There is a non-refundable fee of $20 per entry. Applications must include the title of the piece to be performed, photo, and video, as well as other details as outlined in the application.  For application and other details, go to www.roxburyartsalliance.org.

The Investor’s Bank Theater at Horseshoe Lake is operated by the Roxbury Arts Alliance, a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization.
