HMC Seeks Bucket Brigade Members for Reunion May 4

Do you remember the infamous Hackettstown “Bucket Brigade” effort to raise funds for the construction of Hackettstown Community Hospital? HMC is hosting a reunion May 5 at the Spring Festival!

For three summers in the late 1960s, friends and neighbors–young and old–volunteered their time to collect spare change at the five corners intersection in Hackettstown. Route 80 did not yet reach Hackettstown, so Route 46 was the main thoroughfare to Pennsylvania, and that meant lots of vehicles driving through Hackettstown. Time, dedication, and effort paid off as $101,000 was raised for construction of the hospital, which later opened in 1973.

If you were part of the original Bucket Brigade, or would like to learn more about it, join the Foundation for Hackettstown Medical Center and friends on Saturday, May 4th from 3:30–5 p.m. at HMC’s tent at this year’s Spring Festival! They’ll have some light snacks, share Bucket Brigade stories, and have a display of Hackettstown Medical Center photos from then and now. See what exciting things are yet to come! All are welcome! For more information or to let them know you’re coming, call the Foundation for HMC at 908-850-6876.
