Today, Cathy’s catching up with the “kids” — goats, humans, and young-at-heart alike — from three People of the Week columns last year.

Around one year ago, InsideWarren was enjoying the great outdoors – sans face mask and social distancing! Here are just a few of the season’s highlights.

While our original post on The Phillipsburg Railroad Historians focused on the faces of the organization, there were plenty of behind the scenes photos taken, too, like this shot of an old burned out train car. Photo by Cathy Miller.

Posted on May 16, 2019: The Phillipsburg Railroad Historians hosted their first Open House of the 2019 season on May 11 at their museum located at 10 Pine Alley in Phillipsburg. Currently closed to the public, the PRRH states on their website (www.prrh.org): “We hope at some point this year to be able to open for all to come and enjoy a day outside, ride the Centerville and Southwestern [miniature railroad] and explore our museum and the restored Lehigh and Hudson River Caboose. In the meantime we will continue to update this page to reflect changes to the schedule to comply with the guidelines set by by federal, state and county health officials.”

We met three-year-old Daemon Nicholson last year volunteering at the Karen Nash Memorial Butterfly Garden for Comcast Cares Days. He wasn’t the only youngster dedicating time to the garden, though. Volunteers of all ages were weeding and doing their part. Photo by Cathy Miller.

Posted on May 23, 2019: Comcast, in a testimony to volunteerism and service, spent two days at the Karen Nash Memorial Butterfly Garden in Washington. Comcast Cares Days were held on May 4 and May 19, with Comcast employees and families, various youth groups and school/community members performing upkeep and maintenance chores, along with weeding and planting. Featured in our story was young Daemon Nicholson, 3, of Washington. Unfortunately, this year, Comcast Cares Day, scheduled for May 2 at the Butterfly Garden, was forced to cancel.

Posted on April 11, 2019: A story on Blair McCloskey, a goat breeder from White Township, and his nine baby goats (kids). In April 2020, there were 10 babies born – but no human kids were around to play with the capra kids. During the 2019 interview, Blair mentioned the annual Garden State Dairy Goat Association-sponsored show, on Saturday, May 25, 2019, of Memorial Day Weekend at the Warren County Fairgrounds.

A beautiful goat awaits its time in the spotlight during last year’s Garden State Dairy Goat show. This year’s event has been cancelled, but it will return in 2021. Photo by Cathy Miller.

Hundreds of goats and fully open to the public, the Garden State Dairy Goat show offered an irresistible opportunity to meet all kinds of goats. Sadly, 2020’s show, slated for May 23, was cancelled due to the pandemic. Please enjoy some of the great goat faces from 2019 – those goat eyes, and goat ears, and just imagine the goat cacophony (hint: it was deafening!). Look for the Show to return to the Fairgrounds in 2021.

Try to notice the “little” things – a miniature train clickety-clacking on a metal track; an adorable little volunteer sharing his smile on a sunny day; baby goats leaping and playing. Better times a-comin’!
