Artist’s Multimedia Exhibit at Blair; To Speak Sept. 16

Artist Kristin M̈üller will discuss her work at the Romano Gallery, Blair Academy, 2 Park Street, Blairstown, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16. Art fans do not have to wait til then to see the exhibit. Her multimedia show will be at the gallery through Saturday, Sept. 18.

Müller’s show, “Interpretation and Iteration: An Ex;poration of Ideas and Visual Language in Clay and on Paper” opened the gallery’s season on Aug. 17.

The exhibit explores the natural using a selection of wood-fired ceramic vessels, clay mono prints and prints on paper, the artist draws from different interpretations of the natural world, wabi-cha aesthetics, gesture and surface design.

Müller describes her artistic process as “sometimes deliberate,” but she says, “My most productive moments are those in which I let go and immerse myself in the process of making. On these occasions, stream-of-consciousness thoughts are channeled through my hands and onto the material of choice.” Describing herself as restless by nature, the artist explains she allows impressions to flow through her work stemming from the visual, experiential, physical and subliminal.

The Executive Director of Peters Valley School of Craft in Layton, New Jersey, and an adjunct professor for the graduate ceramics program at Hood College, Frederick, MD, Müller currently divides her time between working with the next generation of artists and creating her own art at her studio in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania. She is the author of “The Potter’s Studio Handbook: A Start to Finish Guide to Hand-built and Wheel-Thrown Ceramics,” which reviewers call an essential pottery manual that has been translated into Dutch and Swedish since its 2007 publication. More recently, Müller co-authored “Making Good: An Inspirational Guide to Being an Artist Craftsman,” published by Schiffer Books in April 2017.

Her artist’s talk on her work, process and influences is open to the public as well as Blair students.
