Blue Streaks Counting On Hanisak, Moore, Koch

By Zack Martino

When the calendar flips to spring it marks the beginning of baseball season. With that, the Warren Hill Blue Streaks are prepping for a big 2018, looking to build and improve upon last year’s record of 8-13.

Head coach Joe Blackford has set a goal for his team that could lead to big games being played late in the season.

“Our goal for this upcoming season is to improve every day and compete,” he said. “If we can do this, then we have the ability to contend for our division, county and state tournaments.”

Blackford has several key players returning to his team including senior catcher/pitcher PJ Hanisak, senior third baseman/pitcher Tommy Moore and junior outfielder/pitcher Garrett Koch.

Last season, Hanisak finished 2017 with a .475 batting average on 29 total hits, three home runs, 12 doubles and 26 runs batted in. Moore hit .354 with 23 hits, two home runs, nine doubles and nine RBI’s and Koch batted .292, collecting 21 hits, one home run and four doubles.

Blackford sees the successes of the previous season as a building block and a solid focus for this upcoming season.

“We gained valuable experience from last year’s season and are looking to continue to take steps forward as a program,” he said. “The players are working hard and are looking forward to having a successful season.”
