Cathy’s People of the Week Enjoy A Super Ending to the Super Bowl

“Super Bowl LIV was an American football game played to determine the champion of the National Football League for the 2019 season,” according to Wikipedia. Sounds kind of ho-hum. However…

In the final seven minutes of Super Bowl LIV, the Kansas City Chiefs scored not one, not two, but three touchdowns over the San Francisco 49ers, earning the Championship title for the first time in 50 years, and only the second time in team history, with a final score of 31 to 20.

Watching the excitement unfold on Feb. 2 was a bar full of folks at William’s Irish Tavern in Washington. In reality, some were on hand to watch the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. Some looked forward to the halftime show. Some didn’t. One thing they all had in common was a taste for the bar’s food and beer!

Tyler Balog, from Washington, and Abbey Marchioni, from Mansfield, sat at the end of the curved bar near the last television in a long line of televisions, which displayed a whole lot of red. (For the first time ever, according to sportscasters, two teams with red as their primary color competed in a Super Bowl.)

Some may recognize Tyler from his role in a recent TV commercial for Petty’s Goodyear Tire and Auto, where he works.

Neither Abbey nor Tyler were particularly invested in either team, but Abbey admitted she hoped Kansas City would triumph because they hadn’t won a Super Bowl in five decades. Tyler was fairly confident that the Chiefs would be the victors. Both were anticipating the halftime show with Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, while neither was interested in the Puppy Bowl.

A social event as much as a sporting event, with the stadium lined up for next year, die-hard Super Bowl fans are already planning for tickets and a seat at the bar!
