Celebrated Poets Doty, Harel Open WCC Author Series

Two celebrated poets will get Warren Community College’s Visiting Authors Series off to a wonderful start this fall when the highly regarded program resumes on Thursday, September 23, with an online reading by Catherine Doty and Jared Harél. This event, which can be accessed through the link found below, begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Doty is a poet, cartoonist, and educator from Paterson. She is the author of Wonderama and Momentum, volumes of poems published by CavanKerry Press, and Just Kidding, a collection of cartoons from Avocet Press. She is the recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as an Academy of American Poets Prize and fellowships from The New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Harél is the author of the poetry collection, Go Because I Love You (Diode Editions), and the narrative long-poem, The Body Double (Brooklyn Arts Press). He has been awarded the ‘Stanley Kunitz Memorial Prize’ from American Poetry Review, as well as the ‘William Matthews Poetry Prize’ from Asheville Poetry Review. Harél’s poems have appeared in such journals as 32 Poems, Four Way Review, Harvard Review, Ploughshares, The Southern Review, The SUN, Tin House and Threepenny Review. Harél teaches writing at Nassau Community College and The Writers Circle, and plays drums for the NYC-based rock band, Flyin’ J & the Ghostrobber. He lives with his wife and two children in Queens, NY.

The Visiting Authors Series is supported by a grant from the Warren County Division of Cultural & Heritage Affairs. All physical site facilities comply with ADA regulations and are fully accessible. Sign language interpretation for any VAS event is available with two weeks’ notice.

Novelist Wally Lamb, author of two #1 New York Times bestsellers, She’s Come Undone and I Know This Much Is True (which was adapted to become an HBO limited series), will read on Thursday, October 28, at 7:30 p.m.

Gretna Wilkinson and Sander Zulauf Read Holiday Poems. Thursday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m.

Please note: While these two future events are scheduled to be in person on the Washington campus, there is a possibility one or both will transition to online if circumstances require, in which case a link to the live online reading(s) will be provided by Warren Community College. Either way, both events will occur at their scheduled times, whether in person or online.

Warren County Community College, located at 475 Route 57 West in Washington, offers students the option of earning an Associate of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, the first and only degree of its kind in New Jersey and a member program of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP).
