Warren Hills Hockey, Football Keep On Rolling

By Andy Loigu

Just like Old Man River, the Warren Hills field hockey and football teams kept rolling along over the weekend.

In field hockey, Warren Hills is ranked sixth in New Jersey (all sections and groups) by the nj.com pundits.

The Blue Streaks defeated a very sound Bridgewater-Raritan squad 4-2 on Saturday morning in Washington. Sarah Salameh scored a goal and assisted on scores by Emily Dvorsky and Maddie Summitt, to facilitate the Blue Streaks’ big win.

Meanwhile, the football team is starting to look like a juggernaut.

Following Friday night’s 35-0 shutout win, the Blue Streaks are 3-0 on the gridiron. In winning 40-0 at home against Voorhees and then by 28-6 and 35-0 on the road at South Plainfield and Carteret, they have outscored their foes 103-6. Feel free to check my math.

Perhaps the experts who do the rankings will notice. Regardless, the Blue Streaks have started piling up power points which will help them in the playoff seedings.

The defensive shutout was powered by seniors Tyler McCatharn, Tyler Michalski and Anthony Buchanan. McCatharn had a sack among his seven tackles and Michalski and Buchanan shared the team lead with eight tackles each.

Junior quarterback Luke Dugan guided the offense through the friendly skies with 11 completions in 21 attempts for 219 yards and four touchdowns without being intercepted.

He also ran with the ball when needed, carrying the pigskin 23 times for 186 yards and a touchdown. Senior Jon Lainez scored twice via touchdown pass receptions, He carried the ball 31 times for 193 yards.

Buchanan, a two-way player, and senior standout Jahmir Brewer caught scoring passes.

The Warren Hills ground game protected the lead by gaining 453 yards, extending drives by piling up first downs and keeping their opposing offense off the field as the minutes ticked by.

Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building.
