Holocaust Historian to Share Story of Liberation

The World War II and Holocaust Research Center at Warren County Community College is proud to host renowned author and teacher Matthew A. Rozell, an authority on the Holocaust who has been featured internationally for his work.

The speaking engagement, which is free and open to the public, will take place Wednesday, April 24, at 2 p.m. on the College’s main campus in Washington.

“Through the Eyes of Liberators and Survivors: History Comes to Life” explores events on April 13, 1945, when American forces first came face-to-face with the horror of the Holocaust. On this day, troops overran a train transport near Magdeburg, in the heart of war-torn Germany. Inside were 2,500 Jewish concentration camp victims.

In Rozell’s book, A Train Near Magdeburg, the author traces the resulting liberation and reunions six decades later between liberators and survivors. The presentation will also include photos from 1945 and commentary by the American GIs.

This presentation is free and open to the community, faculty, staff, and students. Free parking is available on the campus.

Warren County Community College is located at 475 Route 57 in Washington Township. The College offers an array of free community events throughout the year.

For further information about the presentation, please contact Professor Bill Lorenzo, blorenzo@warren.edu.

  1. This was an amazing event! Matthew Rozell brought with him a 95-year old WWII vet, Walter, who had a special message to share with everyone there. I highly recommend that you watch and share this video! https://youtu.be/8VS1F3NQQ1o
