Honor and Love as Washington Celebrates America

Cathy Miller’s Persons of the Week attended Washington Celebrates America event on July 4.

Lonnie Cryan, above, a Washington resident, has a 30 year background in American Military living history activities. On the 4th of July, he marched in Washington Celebrates America’s annual parade as a WWI color bearer, in correct uniform, with the correct 48 star American Flag. After stepping out of the parade near the conclusion, he stood solemnly saluting as marchers and flags passed by.

Later on, Ken and Judy Iselin, of Somerville came to Washington to spend time with family and friends and enjoy all the festivities. Late afternoon, when spectators began gathering at Warren Hills Middle School’s fields for the fireworks, Ken approached DJ Doc South with a song request. He and his wife Judy are celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary soon, so he asked if Doc would play their wedding song, “Blue Hawaii” by Elvis Presley. While loudspeakers boomed the classic ballad, the happy couple danced as…”dreams come true in blue Hawaii.”
