MWA to host virtual Wild & Scenic Film watch party

For the last three years, the Musconetcong Watershed Association (MWA) welcomed the public to Centenary University’s campus to watch the Wild & Scenic Film Festival.  This year things are different, so the festival is being brought to you! Join the MWA on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. to watch live from the comfort and safety of your home.

Held each January in California, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival celebrates the beauty and wonder of our natural world and inspires audiences everywhere to take action to protect it.  Concerned citizens worldwide know the urgency of the many environmental crises facing our planet today, but most don’t know how they can contribute to the fight.

Now, attendees in Warren, Hunterdon, Sussex, and Morris Counties in New Jersey can support local advocates for the environment by attending MWA’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour event.

“By offering this virtual option, we hope to reach audiences who may not have been able to attend our in-person events, as well as veteran advocates who are looking to continue learning about environmental efforts being made across the country,” said Charlie Fineran, Chair, Musconetcong River Management Council.

Featured during this year’s virtual event, viewers will get to watch “A Community Conservation Effort,” which highlights a group of local citizens working to improve their trails system; “A Living River,” which showcases efforts being made by Riverkeeper and other organizations to improve water quality in the Hudson for all of the aquatic wildlife that call this river home; and other inspiring films in conservation and community cooperation.

The festival is a natural extension of MWA’s work to inspire people to act on behalf of the environment.  Following recent dam removals, MWA has seen improvements in water quality as well as the return of American Shad. They are now continuing to monitor water quality by installing sensors in the river, building our volunteer and intern program to collect water samples of different parts of the river, and other education and outreach efforts to continue to keep the community and local leaders involved and motivated to make a difference.
