Centenary Stage Company’s Fringe Festival kicks off this October with a one-man rendition of “The Things They Carried.”

Based on Tim O’Brien’s literary classic about the Vietnam War and adapted for the stage by Jim Stowell, “The Things They Carried” is a one-person tour-de-force starring David Sitler. The play explores the lines between truth and reality as fact and fiction blur in this unforgettable soldier’s journey, which goes from the protagonist’s innocent years in rural Minnesota to the jungle of Vietnam.

This limited engagement will be presented Oct. 24-Oct. 27 in the Edith Kutz Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center on the campus of Centenary University in Hackettstown.

Performance dates and times are Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets range $25-$27.50 for adults with discounts available for students and others. The play contains graphic descriptions of war violence, very mild sexual content, and use of explicit language. Audience discretion is advised.
