Oxford Central School has been certified as the only 2020 “National School of Character” in Warren County by Character.org, which recognizes schools and school districts that demonstrate dedication to character development.

OCS was among only 84 schools in the country to receive this recognition.

Oxford Central School’s character education program is led by Patricia Carr and, under her direction, the school has been recognized as a State School of Character twice.

Character.org works with schools, families, workplaces, and communities to educate, inspire, and empower people of all ages to be ethical and compassionate citizens. Its “11 Principles of Effective Character” is a comprehensive framework that helps schools improve academic achievement, student behavior, and overall positive school climate.

Criteria for selection were based on the 11 Principles, which include providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership, and engaging families and communities as partners in the character-building effort.
