Tandoh Named Alumni Trustee on WCC Board

As the former Student Government President at Warren Community College this past year Nanaama Tandoh earned a solid reputation as being a true leader. Her leadership abilities were duly recognized by students, staff and faculty. Tandoh was chosen by her fellow graduates to be the Alumni Representative to the Warren Community College Board of Trustees for the 2021-2022 term.

Tandoh graduated in the spring of 2021 from Warren with an A.S. in Chemistry and is currently attending Monmouth University pursuing a degree in Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry.

In addition to serving as the Student Government Association (SGA) President in 2020, she was the SGA Vice President in 2019. Tandoh was involved in several other college organizations, including the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program where she was a Peer Mentor in 2019 and 2020, and was also a member of Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society. Tandoh was a student representative on the WCC Foundation for the Alumni Association, as well, and even had time to be a host/MC for the College’s Open Mic Night.

As a member of the Board of Trustees Tandoh wants to work hard to ensure that Warren continues to be a strong part of the “community.”

“I look forward to providing my perspective as someone who was heavily involved in the student body and made sure the goal in everything I did was to ‘put the community in community college,'” said Tandoh, a lifelong resident of Washington Township. “I look forward to keeping that goal through my position on the board. I hope to continue the work I started, working with amazing individuals, and providing the current students with a safe, comfortable environment to learn, and providing new students in a welcoming environment that they can thrive in. I hope I can represent entire student including the marginalized community.”

Tandoh admitted that being selected gave her pause. “I felt proud being nominated for the Alumni Trustee position. I’m very grateful that I was given this opportunity by the student body and the Board. I was nervous when I joined the Board because they’re all very influential and accomplished people. However, they were super welcoming and are such nice people to be around.”

“Nanaama is a terrific choice as the alumni representative,” said Dr. Phil Linfante, Chair of the Board. “She brings a perspective on the College and the students that other Board members might not see. She offers a first-hand birds eye view of the day to day student experience, and that’s something that is very important to our Board.”

Warren Community College offers a wide range of certificate, continuing education, and degree programs designed to help students enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year college or university.
