Fourth seed Hackettstown and third seed Warren Hills both won their semifinal field hockey games on Saturday afternoon and now will face each other in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament championship game, at a time, date and place to be determined.
Warren Hills (11-4-1) defeated Voorhees 1-0 in its semifinal battle, with Olivia Chomut’s goal in overtime breaking a scoreless tie.
Hackettstown (12-2-1) defeated visiting Belvidere 3-1 on Saturday evening, to reach the championship game.
The shots on goal tally tells the tale, as the Tigers dominated play, outshooting  Belvy 22-3.
Kayla Cichlar scored twice and Megan Doyle added a goal. Jordan Vandermark contributed a pair of assists.
Madeline Call scored the lone Belvidere goal.
TIGERS BOYS ADVANCE
In boys soccer, the third seeded Hackettstown Tigers (10-3) reached the H/W/S semifinal with a 2-0 win over visiting Phillipsburg on Friday evening. Hackettstown had a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.
The Tigers will visit second seed Hunterdon Central in the semifinal on Saturday, at a time to be determined.
Eleazar Diaz and Isaac Javier scored goals, assisted by Ryan Cogan and Dom Omelia. Goalkeeper Vinny Coccaro kept the Stateliners off the scoreboard.
Coccaro also shutout Vernon 4-0 on Oct. 10, in a game where the Tigers dominated the action with an 18-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Tyler Gorczyca scored twice, Shane Davies scored a goal and assisted twice and Carlton Prant also scored, to power the Tigers’ offense.
TIGERS ROLL PAST DOVER
In CB talk, made popular by C.W. McCall’s hit song Convoy in the 1970s, a typical conversation may have gone like this: “Red Rover, Red Rover, come over, come over, Hackettstown  rolled over Dover.”
The Tigers (3-4) led 21-0 at the half, powered by Matt Castro’s three rushing touchdowns. Although he only carried the football nine times, he gained an impressive total of 116 yards.
Quarterback Tim Ervey scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the second half, as Hackettstown’s triple-option system was effective, and then some.
Next, in hopes of landing a berth in the football playoffs, the Tigers visit the Chatham Cougars on Saturday evening, 7 p.m. kickoff. The fur will fly.
