Underdog Larkin Wins Mens Golf Title at PVG&CC

The underdog is triumphant!

Seeded at No. 8, Joe Larkin knew he’d have his work cut out for him to have a chance at winning the Panther Valley Golf & Country Club’s Mens golf title this year.

You could say that Larkin “cut” up the competition after knocking off the No. 1, 2 and 4 seeds to win the championship in upset fashion.

Unfazed at being the “underdog,” Larkin buzzed through the competition on his way to the championship round.

In the finals, the 62-year old Larkin faced quite a challenge from 17-year old Robbie Donnelly in pretty much a neck and neck battle between the “seasoned veteran” and the “The Kid”. Larkin sizzled following a midday break, at one point winning six holes in a row to go three up. It wasn’t until the 31st hole that Larkin, keeping his cool throughout and forging an outstanding short game, sewed up the win.

In the club’s Flight championships, Mike Larney defeated John Johnson for the A title; Matt Kurtz captured the B title over Dave DeVincentis; Joe Sacco defeated Ken Beckman for the C crown; and Bill Harrison won the D Flight over Doug Kobin.
