Warren Community College Earns International Drone Training Certification

Dr. Will Austin, WCC's President and drone instructor, works with students in 2019.

Warren Community College, already certified by national drone training programs and recognized by the FAA as a prominent educational institution for Unmanned Vehicle Systems (UVS) programs, has added another key renowned designation to its portfolio.

The College was recently named by ASTM International as an approved UAS Training Provider Program (UATPP).

“The confidence that ASTM and other organizations that have in Warren is a testament of the program we’ve built here,” said Dr. Will Austin, President of Warren Community College and the college’s Chief Pilot. “In just a few short years we went from a dream to a concept to what we have now, a state-of-the-art program that we’d put up against any other college or university. We believe that we are the premier program in the Northeast and clearly many industry leaders feel the same.”

Jonathan Daniels, CEO of Praxisa Aerospace, notes that Warren’s “level of professionalism” is a big factor in the program’s success.

“This type of accreditation ties into industry standards,” said Daniels, referring to the UAS Training Provider Program.

Having standards recognized by the UVS industry is good for everyone, he added. “It’s a collaborative effort that benefits everyone. And that’s important in this (burgeoning) field.”
