Warren County Hall Of Fame To Have Permanent Hall

The Warren County Hall of Fame will soon have a Hall it can call its own.

Officials from the county and at Warren County Community College put the shovel to the dirt on Feb. 24 to highlight a new stretch of the College that will ultimately house the Warren County Hall of Fame. The list of Hall of Famers is currently on display at the College in an area not easily accessible to all students and the community. While the Hall is sponsored by the WCCC Foundation, the Hall of Famers come throughout Warren County and represent an array of backgrounds and achievements. The new “hall” will be situated between the west wing of the College and a new building that will be erected in the next year.
“The expansion of the college will allow us to truly showcase the county Hall of Famers,” said Dr. Will Austin, President of WCCC. “We are very excited that we’ve been able to incorporate this into our overall plans.”
Dr. Phil Linfante, Chair of the College Board of Trustees, added, “This is going to be terrific – students and the public will have the opportunity to be reminded of the best of the best in our county every day.”
Christopher Maier, a Hall of Famer, sees the new hall as a way of illuminating not only the Hall of Famers, but more importantly, the college. “By choosing a spot that is more accessible, it elevates the whole image of the college as a community leader.”
“It’ll great to be have a permanent place to highlight the accomplishments of the Hall of Famers,” said Warren County freeholder Jason Sarnoski. “It’s very appropriate that we have a permanent spot.”
Freeholder Ed Smith agreed: “To be able to walk through one hall and see all the important ‘players’ from Warren County is just fantastic.”
The Hall of Fame committee is currently seeking nominations of Warren County residents who have “made Warren County proud” through making a difference. Nominees for this year’s inclusion must be submitted by June 1. Nominations should be based on one or more of the following qualities: Public service, military service, business, sports, arts and entertainment, education, or special recognition (for those who have impacted the county but do not fall into the previous categories).

There are currently over 70 individuals who have been inducted into the Hall.  “The Hall of Fame in general is such a great idea,” said John Dimaio, Assemblyman from Hackettstown. “We’ve got so many folks who have done wonderful things in the county, or have made Warren County proud in one way or another. Having a platform to honor them is ideal.”

Each nomination category is broad and may apply to multiple types of nominees. For example, public service nominations can include community volunteers or a public official that has positively impacted the community. Business nominees can be either a business person or business itself. Sports nominees have included athletes, sports administrators, and coaches, including careers in Warren County and beyond. Arts and entertainment nominees also may have careers that stretched beyond the county. Military service nominees may be active or veteran members of the armed services.

All nominees must have strong ties to Warren County, which can include a current or former resident, or someone who works or serves in the county.

Nominations can be e-mailed to samir@warren.edu and need to include nominator’s name and contact information, the nominee’s name and contact information, and a short “bio” – or bullet points – on why you feel the nominee should be selected to the Warren County Hall of Fame. If you prefer, paper nomination forms can be printed from the Foundation website.

The Hall of Fame was established by the Warren County Community College Foundation to recognize the county’s finest. This year’s event will be held in October at Hawk Pointe Golf Club in Washington.
