The Warren County Library will participate in the 100 Years of Newberry Challenge, which runs through Feb. 28, 2023.

The Challenge, which is facilitated by the Beanstack software, asks children 5-years-old and older as well as adults, to read as many Newberry Award winning books as possible in the next year.

This is the 100th anniversary of the Newberry Award which is presented by the Association for Library Services to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children each year. Sign up at warrenlib.org.

Preserving Family Photos

A library Zoom event on Tuesday, March 8, from 6:30 to 7:30, will address preservation of family photographs.

Since the introduction of photographic portrait studios in 1840, photographs have been among the most treasured of family records. While many are long-lasting when stored optimally in archives, in the home environment, they are all too often prone to fading and discoloration. Gary Saretzky, archivist at the Monmouth County Archives, will provide guidance on how the life of family photographs can be extended so that they can be passed down to future generations. The program includes examples of how old photographs can be enhanced or restored in the computer after digitization. Registration is required with Kim Urban at (908) 818-1280 or kurban@warrenlib.org.
