Warren County Library Slates Summer Programs

The four branches of the Warren County Library have a full lineup of summer programs for children and adults.

On Tuesday, July 6, the Catherine Dickson Hofman Branch will hold a craft program at the gazebo in two sessions: from 10 to 11 and from 11:30 to 12:30. Kids ages 8 through 15 will make a mermaid bath bomb crumble. Social distancing is required. To register, login with library card number and pin.

The first Maker Camp: Going Buggy will be Wednesday, July 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the CDH gazebo. Maker camps enable children to meld science and art. While learning about insects, participants will make origami butterflies, ladybugs and fireflies and then invent a “flickerbug” that lights up. Open to children from 5 to 12. Caregivers must remain for children under 12.

The second Maker Camp: Welcome to the Jungle, will be at the CDH gazebo on Wednesday, July 14 at 10:30 a.m. for children from 5 to 12. While learning about animals of the rainforest, children will create a paper plate python that swirls in the wind while they learn about air currents. They will then make modeling clay monkeys, elephants and other animals. Caregivers must stay with children younger than 9. Presenter is Sandy Roberts. For both, register with Kelly, kdurkin@warrenlib.org.

Another July 7 event will be on Zoom and recorded. Make Magic: The Funny Flower Trick will air at 4 p.m. Participants will use science and engineering to teach real magic tricks. The initial trick will be a flower than wilts on command. Participants will then create their own tricks. Most materials will be provided, bring tape, glue, scissors and markers. Open to ages 8 and up. Presenter is Sandy Roberts. Register with Lina Crowell, crowell@warrenlib.org.

The anime club will meet virtually on Thursday, July 8, at 4 p.m. for children 12 and up. They will discuss the anime “Ride Your Wave.” Register to receive the Zoom link with Christina at 908-813-3858 or cwilliams@warrenlib.org.

On Friday, July 9, at 9:30, the outdoor event Summer Fun – Oceans will be held at the CDH gazebo for children ages 3 to 5. Marlene Wilburn of the Children’s Center Preschool and Kindergarten will present stories and songs about oceans. Register with Kelly at kdurkin@warrenlib.org.

Also on July 9, at 10 a.m., Michelangelo, the Little Therapy Horse will visit the Northeast Branch for an hour of reading and information about mini-horses – what they eat, where they live and what kind of jobs they have. Open to preschoolers. Register with Lindsay at 908-813-3858 or lbragg@warrenlib.org.

Another outdoor program (weather permitting) will teach children to paint leaves on to rocks and to add different colors and details, on Monday, July 12 at 11 a.m. at the Southwest Branch. Open to ages 5 to 10. Social distancing guidelines are required. Register with Luciana at lschwab@warrenlib.org.

A virtual program for adults, Embracing the Power of Prevention, will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Sherri Cirignano of Rutgers Cooperative Extension will present about the latest information on the link between nutrition, physical activity and cancer prevention.

On Thursday, July 15 at 7 p.m. teens and adults can tune in to a virtual program, Jersey Tales, about New Jersey folklore, including the origin story of the Jersey Devil. A question and answer session is included. Register, starting on July 1, with Christina at 908-813-3858 or cwilliams@warrenlib.org.
