The Washington Farmers Market will be offering Good Food Bucks, a SNAP Nutrition Incentive to customers when they use SNAP to purchase fresh produce including fruit and vegetables this summer.
The Good Food Bucks Program, New Jersey’s largest statewide effort, operates at fresh food retailers and farmers markets throughout all 21 counties in a network of over 60 municipalities in all with more than 120 participating farmers.
“This is a terrific opportunity for Washington residents, as well as residents in the surrounding area, to enjoy fresh produce with their SNAP Good Food Bucks,” said Kristy Romanowski, Executive Director of the Washington Business Improvement District. “We are proud to offer fresh produce and vegetables among our vendors, including outstanding local farmers.”
The Washington Farmers Market is run by the WBID in conjunction with Washington’s Green Team. The Farmers Market season goes from June 13 through the end of September by Veterans Park in the center of the Downtown, from 10-1 each Saturday.
The Good Food Bucks Program provides families with affordable access to healthy, farm-fresh produce. Customers who use SNAP receive a dollar for dollar match or a 50 percent discount on fresh produce and fresh vegetables, thus doubling the amount of healthy foods families can enjoy.
“This is also a way to support our local farmers,” said Romanowski. “They are an important part of our rural community and we truly appreciate them.”
Lisa Martin, Director of Food Access at City Green, which heads the program, added that Good Food Bucks “is a win-win for everybody. Nutrition incentives increase the healthy food purchasing power of people using SNAP in New Jersey. We are excited to partner with the Washington BID’s Farmers Market.”
The award-winning Washington’s Farmers Market has been a staple in the Downtown for several years. It has been a long-standing relationship and partnership with the town’s very active Green Team.
