Warren Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa honors society chapter, Alpha Upsilon Rho, has been recognized for its commitment to academia and service by the 2020 Middle States Regional Hallmark Awards.

The award ceremony is traditionally held at the Phi Theta Kappa Annual Middle States Regional Convention, but this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, was held virtually this year on March 28.

The chapter was recognized nine times over, with the chapter and individual leaders named in several award categories. In addition to being named a Five Star Chapter, REACH Chapter, and MSRGold Chapter, the Alpha Upsilon Rho was recognized for the following achievements:

·       Noelle Miller, Vice President of Leadership, Hall of Honor Chapter Officer

·       Jesse Hall, Vice President of Service, Hall of Honor Chapter Officer

·       Chapter Officer Team, Honorable Mention

·       12th Honors Action Hallmark Award

·       3rd Theme 6 – Visions of Justice

·       12th Distinguished Chapter

Miller Earns Coca-Cola Scholar Award

In addition to being recognized as a Hall of Honor Chapter Officer, Noelle Miller, Vice President of Leadership, has been named a 2020 Coca-Cola Academic Team Bronze Scholar. She was recognized during the  virtual MSR Hallmark Awards ceremony on  “receiving ” the award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship and medallion.

This is the second time she’s been recognized by Coca-Cola. In 2019, she was named a Coca-Cola Leader of Promise Scholar.

“When I received the email that I had received this award, I was genuinely surprised,” she said. “Throughout the scholarship application process, it is easy to experience feelings of skepticism or discouragement. So, when I received the notification that I had been awarded by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation again, as a Coca-Cola Scholar, I felt immense gratitude that my academic journey had been acknowledged and supported.”

Selection is not only based on academic achievement, but also leadership and engagement in college and the community.

The business administration student is grateful that her mother inspired her to pursue opportunities to grow, encouraging her to join PTK and take leaps. She will graduate this May and plans to continue her studies at Liberty University.

PTK Leaders Named to Academic Team

Andrea Massimo, Chapter President, and Noelle Miller, VP of Leadership, were selected to represent WCC on the New Jersey Council of County Colleges’ All-New Jersey Academic Team. Typically, students would be recognized at the New Jersey Community College Scholars Celebration. This year’s event has been canceled.
