Visiting Authors Series Hosts Two Speakers Feb. 11

Poet Michael Broek, left (photo by Joanna Eldredge Morrissey), and novelist Sung J. Woo will offer free readings on Feb. 11 as part of WCCC's Visiting Authors Series.

The Warren County Community College Visiting Authors Series continues on ThursdayFeb. 11, with readings by two prominent writers: the novelist Sung J. Woo and the poet Michael Broek.

This event, open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. in room 123A, and is free to all attendees.

Woo’s short stories and essays have appeared in The New York TimesPEN/Guernica, and KoreAm Journal. He has written two novels, “Love Love” (2015) and “Everything Asian” (2009), which won the 2010 Asian Pacific American Librarians Association Literature Award (Youth category).  In 2014, “Everything Asian” was chosen for Coming Together in Skokie and Niles Township.  A graduate of Cornell University with an MFA from New York University, he lives in Washington. 

Broek is the author of “Refuge/es,” winner of the Kinereth Gensler Award for poetry, from Alice James Books, and two chapbooks, “The Logic of Yoo,” from Beloit Poetry Journal, which has been adapted to a staged reading, and “The Amputation Artist,” from ELJ Publications. His poetry and essays have appeared widely in places such as The American Poetry ReviewThe Literary ReviewDrunken BoatLiterary ImaginationBlackbird, and Fourteen Hills. He has received a Fellowship to the MacDowell Arts Colony, a scholarship to the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, and a poetry grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. He edits the online journal of poetry Mead: the Magazine of Literature and Libations.  He holds an MFA in Poetry from Goddard College and a PhD in American Literature from Essex University, UK. He lives and teaches in New Jersey. 

The Visiting Authors Series is supported by a grant from the Warren County Cultural and Heritage Commission. All facilities comply with ADA regulations and are fully accessible. Sign language interpreters are available with two weeks’ notice.
