From the Halls of Warren Hills: December 2018

Area children and their families learn about coding and STEM opportunities during a presentation from Warren Hills Regional School District students during Coding with Kids.

Warren Hills Regional School District has several pieces of recent news to share:

Middle School Gifted & Talented teacher, Jackie Gibbs, was awarded a
Joyce VanTassel-Baska Scholarship at the 2018 Rutgers Gifted Education Conference recently in Somerset (Somerset County). The scholarship is awarded to educators who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills in working with gifted learners. The scholarship will help Gibbs’ continuing education in Rutgers’ Gifted Education certification program.

On Tuesday, Dec. 18, Warren Hills Superintendent Earl C. Clymer and Director of Athletics & Student Activities, Michael Jones, read to patrons at the Washington Library for a holidays-themed story time. Clymer read, “A Visit from St. Nicholas” (also known as “The Night Before Christmas”) by Clement Clarke Moore. Jones read “Russell’s Christmas Magic” by Rob Scotton.  The story time is part of this year’s district goal to become more involved in the community.

As part of the initiative, 40 Computer Science students from Warren Hills Regional High School also helped host a Coding with Kids event. More than 120 children learned about coding during the event, which included presentations and interactive activities. Topics included robotics and computer programming.
