Next Week: Art Therapy Talk Explores Benefits of Creation on Healing

Creating art has been shown to help patients communicate in new and healing ways. Join Warren County Community College on Wednesday, Nov. 6, to learn about the fascinating field of art therapy during a special talk that will explore the fundamentals of the therapeutic modality.

This special talk will be held on WCCC’s Washington campus in Room 123 AB at 11 a.m. on Nov. 6. It is free and open to anyone in the community who is interested in learning more about how art, media, and the creative process is used to help reconcile emotional conflict, foster self-awareness and social skills. The benefits of art therapy have been shown to help everything from PTSD to eating disorders and beyond.

The discussion will be led by Maria Lupo, MA, MFA, ATR-BC, who, in her role as Healing Arts Coordinator at Atlantic Health and as the Chair of the Alliance for Art and Health NJ, works actively in clinical environments with patients. She uses creating art as a healing tool to help patients articulate what might otherwise go unsaid.

The talk will last approximately an hour and fifteen minutes. Warren County Community College is located at 475 Route 57 West in Washington, NJ.
