Centenary University’s all-student NEXTstage Repertory will present William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream—with a modern twist—starting this week. The production opens Thursday, April 22, and will run through Sunday, May 2.

Shakespeare’s beloved comedy follows the story of the four brawling lovers caught in a dispute of increasingly magical proportions; a crew of keen mechanicals, determined to give it their all; and one roguish sprite, hell-bent on causing as much havoc as possible. In this rendition, the show comes to life with a brand new, contemporary re-imagining featuring themes from 1990s grunge and other modern eras.

The production is co-directed by Centenary Stage Company’s own Artistic Director, Carl Wallnau, and Young Audience Series director, Lea Antolini-Lid.

Performances for A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be held in The Sitnik Theatre at 715 Grand Avenue in Hackettstown, in the Lackland Performing Arts Center on the campus of Centenary University.

In addition to numerous live performances, Centenary Stage Company will also offer a live streaming option accompanying the in-person performance on Sunday, April 25, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for non-Centenary students and children under 12, and $5 for Centenary students. Live stream access links are $10 per link.
