Pet Sitting 101 Opens Door Between Hobby, Career

A recent pet owners survey determined that more than 79 million households in the United States include a pet. What does this mean for the job seeker? The demand for professional dog walkers and pet sitters is at an all-time high.

Pet Sitting 101, offered this Spring by Warren County Community College, teaches those wishing to open their own pet sitting business everything they need to know to get started.

Covering both pet care and business topics, the 24-hour course, which runs Monday and Wednesday evenings from March 25-April 17, will be held at the College’s Phillipsburg Education Center, 445 Marshall St., Phillipsburg.

Students will leave the course with a knowledge of Pet CPR and First Aid, basic grooming, breeds, animal behavior, and pet safety issues, as well as small business essentials, customer service, and industry basics.

An opportunity to complete an online program for “Nutrition 101” and “Weigh Management” Certification will also be offered.

This course is ideal for those with a love for caring for animals and want to turn that passion into a career.
